Kilmarnock Santa Sleigh Success

  • Submitted by: Willie Coffey, Kilmarnock and Irvine Valley, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 08 January 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16035

That the Parliament congratulates the Kilmarnock Santa Sleigh on another successful year of visiting areas all around Kilmarnock; notes that the chosen charity of choice in December 2024 was The Night Before Christmas Campaign, an Ayrshire-based charity that spreads festive cheer to those who need it most, providing "Red Bags of Joy" in the hope that it will bring some magic for children and homeless people at Christmas; understands that a group of volunteers planned the routes and that the sleigh was pulled by Rudolph and a John Deere tractor, which was decorated and named the "Santa Express"; notes that Onthank Primary and Supported Learning Centre was involved in volunteering for the local sleigh routes, collecting money for the charity, with the school benefitting from donations of the Christmas bags for some pupils who needed them most; believes that this was a truly magical experience for the whole of Kilmarnock; commends the £5,100 that was collected during the run, and the 8,072 "Red Bags of Joy" that were distributed, and congratulates everyone involved.
