That the Parliament recognises the profound importance of Remembrance in honouring those who have tragically given and lost their lives in service to the country; further recognises the significance of the enduring sacrifice of those currently serving; honours the memory of service personnel such as Sergeant Jonathan Mathews, who tragically lost his life in Afghanistan 18 years ago while serving with The Highlanders, 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment (4 SCOTS); commends the recent unveiling of a commemorative bench in Prestonpans as a tribute to Sergeant Mathews; extends its sincere condolences and best wishes to Jonathan’s wife, Shona, and his family, and calls on the Scottish Government and the UK Government to reaffirm their joint commitment to supporting members of the UK Armed Forces and their families, both during and after service, and in recognition of the sacrifices that they make on behalf of their nation.
