Five Kingdoms Brewery's CAMRA Triumph

  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 22 October 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14928

That the Parliament congratulates Five Kingdoms Brewery, based at Isle of Whithorn, after being named the winner of the 2024 Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Champion Bottled Beer of Britain award; notes that the local brewery triumphed over hundreds of other breweries nominated by CAMRA volunteers as part of the competition; recognises the brewery for achieving what it sees as this highest accolade afforded to bottled beers across the UK; acknowledges that Five Kingdoms began brewing in 2015, originally as a hobby and passion project between Alastair Scoular, owner of the local pub and restaurant The Steam Packet Inn, and head chef Brendon Dennett, who had previous experience brewing at Six Degrees North, and considers that together they have achieved the perfect balance of creating honest, fine ales that have won tens of thousands of fans throughout Britain; understands that the brewery now offers a wide range of craft beer, from traditional real ales, to exciting and rich dark beers in cask, keg, can and bottle, knowing that each beer is uniquely inspired by something important to the team, be it a literary character, piece of music, a place close to their hearts or even hard-earned personal experience; further understands that this is not the first time that Five Kingdoms has won the top awards for its real ales, and wishes the small team continued success in the coming months and years ahead.
