  • Submitted by: Ariane Burgess, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 02 October 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14722

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of the LGBT+ Community Sports Hub in Moray, established through a partnership between UHI Moray, Moray Council’s Sports Hub Development Team, the Highlands and Islands Students’ Association (HISA), and LEAP Sport; recognises what it sees as the significance of this initiative in creating safe, inclusive spaces for members of the LGBT+ community to participate in a range of sports and physical activities free of charge; applauds the bespoke training workshops delivered by LEAP Sport, which equip local grassroots sports clubs with the knowledge and tools to combat homophobia and foster strong allyship in sports; acknowledges what it regards as the key role that the Active Campus programme and Moray Pride Inclusion Sports Hub play in supporting marginalised communities, breaking down barriers to participation, and promoting diversity and inclusion in local sports; notes that the initiative aligns with sportscotland's Changing Lives Through Sport and Physical Activity programme, which encourages physical activity as a tool for positive social change, and commends the ongoing efforts of all partners involved in ensuring the hub’s sustainability and continued contribution to inclusivity in sport.
