Welcoming International Research Collaboration for Innovative Contraception

  • Submitted by: Michael Marra, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 25 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17295

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of an international research collaboration involving the University of Dundee, the University of Münster and the University of Birmingham, which aims to identify the causes of male infertility and develop novel non-hormonal contraceptive methods; recognises that this pioneering work will focus on analysing sperm function in both fertile and infertile men to uncover critical differences that are not detectable through traditional semen analysis; acknowledges that improving understanding of male infertility not only has the potential to enhance clinical care for affected couples, but also supports the creation of new, innovative contraceptive options that empower women and promote gender equality in reproductive health, and commends the leadership of the University of Dundee and its collaborators in driving forward science that addresses unmet global health needs.
