  • Motion reference: S6M-17289

That the Parliament recognises the upcoming International Nurses Day on 12 May 2025, which is a day observed worldwide to recognise the contribution that nurses make to society; understands that the role of the nurse takes place in a wide diversity of settings, from hospitals, communities and care homes to prisons, where nurses demonstrate dedication, commitment, care and compassion; acknowledges that the International Council of Nurses, which organises this annual celebration, has named the theme of this year’s event “Caring for nurses strengthens economies”, to raise the importance of the role of the nurse as a professional in today’s health service and the challenges that these nurses face in delivering care, while highlighting how their role requires demonstrating their incredible skills, remarkable dedication, professional knowledge and expertise; considers that nurses' mental health and wellbeing should be prioritised to ensure that they can continue to provide their highly skilled care, which it considers is crucial to the health of communities, and applauds nurses for the invaluable work that these professionals do.
