Scotland Transplant Active Football Team Competes in European Transplant Football Championship

  • Submitted by: Foysol Choudhury, Lothian, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 16 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17183

That the Parliament congratulates the Scotland Transplant Active Football Team on competing in the first ever European Transplant Football Championship; understands that the team is formed of recipients of life-sustaining solid organs, including stem cell transplants that require or required the use of immunosuppressive drug therapy; acknowledges that the mixed-gender team played in the European Championship in Oxford between 2 and 6 April 2025 against teams from England, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Wales; recognises in particular the participation of Jelina Berlow-Rahman, who was the only female player in the Scottish team during the tournament; notes that the team had to fund its participation through a GoFundMe appeal, receiving donations from the public; recognises that recovery from an organ transplant can be an incredibly challenging time and participation in transplant football can improve mental health and give transplant recipients an opportunity to openly discuss recovery; commends all those who took part in the European Championship, and hopes that the Scottish Transplant Football Team qualifies for the Transplant World Cup in 2026.
