That the Parliament congratulates Julie McMillan on her retirement after 30 years of dedicated service as the manager of Shakespeare Street Youth Club in Maryhill, Glasgow; acknowledges what it sees as her significant contribution to improving the life of many young people and families from right across the Maryhill area; recognises that Julie took over stewardship of "The Shakey" from legendary former manager, Stewart Bell, who recently sadly passed away; understands that under Julie’s stewardship, the Shakespeare Street Youth Club has gone from strength to strength and reached its landmark 100th anniversary in 2023; acknowledges Julie’s role in reaching "100 not out" for the Youth Club as it understands that she helped secure vital funds after the future of Shakespeare Street Youth Club was placed in doubt in 2020; commends Julie and the team at "The Shakey" for continuing to grow the range of services available, including regular cooking clubs, wellbeing sessions and play groups, and for engaging young people in sports such as football, tai chi, taekwondo, as well as days out and residential trips for young people; is confident that Julie leaves Shakespeare Street Youth Club in good health, and wishes Julie a happy and fulfilling retirement in the knowledge that her legacy will inspire future generations.
