Scotland Men's Curlers Triumph Again at World Championships

  • Submitted by: Finlay Carson, Galloway and West Dumfries, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 10 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17119

That the Parliament warmly congratulates Scotland’s curling superstars on winning the men’s title at the World Curling Championships at Moose Jaw, in Saskatchewan, Canada, with what it considers was a sensational 5-4 victory over Switzerland; recognises that the skip, Bruce Mouat, from Stirling, and his teammates from Dumfries and Galloway, Hammy McMillan jnr, Bobby Lammie and Grant Hardie, regained the title that they won in 2023; believes that the team, which also won an Olympic silver in Beijing in 2022, has had a stunning year, winning three grand slam titles out of four, taking the players' overall tally to nine; understands that Scotland had never won a men's grand slam title before the quartet came together in 2017; considers that this sustained level of excellence by what it sees as the world’s number one side has set new standards and achievements in curling, and wishes Bruce, Hammy, Bobby and Grant continued success as they pursue new sporting standards in the coming months and years beyond.
