  • Submitted by: Maggie Chapman, North East Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 25 March 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16848

That the Parliament celebrates the successes of Granite City Brass and of the Arbroath and Carnoustie Band, which won the First and Fourth Sections, respectively, of the 2025 Scottish Brass Band Championships; congratulates everyone involved in the event, including many from the North East Scotland region; recognises and applauds what it considers to be the role of brass bands in nurturing musical talent in children and young people from all backgrounds, building community cohesion in industrial and post-industrial contexts, providing accessible and inclusive opportunities to hear and participate in music, and supporting struggles for the rights of workers and marginalised people, and urges the Scottish Government and local authorities to support free and accessible performances by brass bands and other musicians across Scotland.
