That the Parliament welcomes the recent report by the River Carron Conservation Association (RCCA) and the Institute for Biodiversity and Freshwater Conservation at UHI Inverness on the Carron Conservation Programme; recognises that wild salmon populations in Scotland are classified as "endangered" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature; understands that, what it sees as this unprecedented conservation study, helps guide a path for returning wild salmon to the country's rivers and marine environment, as well as demonstrating what it considers is the vital role that conservation initiatives play in the health of Scotland’s ecosystems and the strength of rural economies and communities; acknowledges the work of all involved with the RCCA and the Institute for Biodiversity and Freshwater Conservation at UHI Inverness, and the assistance of the Salmon Scotland Wild Fisheries Fund in funding the analysis, and commends the continued work of the RCCA to bring science and field work together to help inform policies for restoring stocks of wild salmon across Scotland.
