  • Submitted by: Rona Mackay, Strathkelvin and Bearsden, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 13 March 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16779

That the Parliament commends the constituents of Strathkelvin and Bearsden for supporting an appeal to install a memorial cairn in Auld Aisle Cemetery, Kirkintilloch; notes that the previously unmarked, common burial plot for the patients of Woodilee Hospital dates from 1876 to 2001; applauds the compassion, vision and action of a small group of passionate mental health advocates, led by the retired GP, Dr Elizabeth Swain, to raise public awareness and enable public donations in excess of £2,000 for the memorial cairn; appreciates the cooperation of East Dunbartonshire Council in recognising the significance of this memorial and for its sensitive support of the process, and sends its heartfelt gratitude to all who have played a part in ensuring that a permanent memorial marks the resting place of these precious souls.
