  • Submitted by: Gordon MacDonald, Edinburgh Pentlands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 11 March 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16759

That the Parliament welcomes the development of construction pathways in Edinburgh, which features the delivery of Build Your Future events to inspire the next generation to consider a career in the sector; understands that the development and delivery of pilots for National 5 Creative Industries – Roof Slating, and National 5 Creative Industries – Stone Carving is being undertaken by the City of Edinburgh Council; notes that National 5 Creative Industries courses have been developed in collaboration with the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, Stone Federation GB, Historic Environment Scotland, Scottish Traditional Building Forum, Education Scotland and Scottish Qualifications Authority; further notes that the pilots are being delivered in three schools in Edinburgh, including Wester Hailes High School in the Edinburgh Pentlands constituency, which has two National 5 Creative Industries – Roof Slating classes as part of the pilot course; believes that the development and evolution of the construction pathways will assist young people to make informed decisions about their career choices whilst ensuring parity of esteem with other subject choices; further believes that this demonstrates the work being done to address the attainment gap, and congratulates the organisations, schools, staff and students that are participating in the pilots.
