Dr Gerald Lip, Consultant at NHS Grampian, Appointed President of the British Society of Breast Radiology

That the Parliament congratulates Dr Gerald Lip, a consultant at NHS Grampian, on being appointed the President of the British Society of Breast Radiology; understands that the British Society of Breast Radiology is a specialist group of the Royal College of Radiologists, representing up to 700 consultant specialist radiologists in breast cancer across the four nations; recognises that Dr Lip is a consultant radiologist and the clinical director of the North East of Scotland Breast Screening Programme, where he leads the NHS Grampian team, which, each year, carries out around 25,000 breast screening scans for patients across the north of Scotland; further recognises that Dr Lip is also part of a wider team that works in diagnosing, treating and supporting women with breast disease; acknowledges that Dr Lip is globally recognised for his work exploring the use of AI in diagnostic breast cancer radiology, along with colleagues at the Aberdeen Centre of Health Data Science, where AI is used to enhance the role of radiologists, benefiting both patient and healthcare professional; notes that Dr Lip will be instrumental in bringing eminent leaders in research and diagnostics of breast cancer to a conference in Aberdeen later in 2025 as part of the European Society of Breast Imaging, and wishes Dr Lip success as he takes up his role as President of the British Society of Breast Radiology and continues to lead in the field of breast cancer.
