Recognising the Contributions of Professor George Boyne as Principal of the University of Aberdeen

That the Parliament congratulates Professor George Boyne on his outstanding tenure as Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen, following his appointment in 2018; acknowledges what it sees as his significant leadership in enhancing the university’s academic standing, including its rise to 12th place in the rankings published by The Guardian and 15th in those of The Times and The Sunday Times, compared with 46th and 40th in 2018, respectively; commends his commitment to student success, with Aberdeen ranking second in Scotland and 15th in the UK in the National Student Survey; recognises his leadership in navigating the university through challenging periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic and what it sees as the financial pressures in the higher education sector; thanks him for his unwavering dedication to research excellence, student employability and international partnership, and wishes George a happy and fulfilling retirement, following the completion of his term in December 2025.
