2025 SP Energy Networks Warriors School Championship

  • Submitted by: Emma Roddick, Highlands and Islands, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 26 February 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16599

That the Parliament wishes pupils from Oban High School the best of luck as they prepare to participate in the 2025 Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) Warriors School Championship; understands that the SPEN Warriors Championship supports rugby at a grassroots level and creates a platform for aspiring rugby players, while highlighting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) opportunities, which encourage students to think about a career beyond the game; appreciates that this is the eighth year of SPEN supporting the championship, and that over 6,000 young people from 28 schools have taken part over the years; understands that the tournament allows pupils to play matches in a formal competition, promoting teamwork and a healthy lifestyle, while also removing barriers to support emerging talent and show that rugby is for everyone; further understands that Scottish Power is supporting the development of STEM skills with women and girls, through STEM initiatives in partnership with Glasgow Warriors, which demonstrates that STEM is not only about careers in engineering and that opportunities can be found in many different jobs, including in sport, and wishes all those involved a rewarding and successful tournament.
