Darts Star Visits Men’s Shed Govan to Promote Men’s Health

  • Submitted by: Annie Wells, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 21 February 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16534

That the Parliament congratulates the Men's Shed in Govan on receiving a visit from the darts player, Stephen Bunting; understands that he urged men to be more open about their health during the visit, which took place ahead of the Premier League's visit to the city on 13 February 2025; further understands that tens of thousands of men in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) delay seeking medical care until it becomes urgent and that this is often due to not knowing where to go, or feeling embarrassed to reach out; notes reports that NHSGGC figures also reveal that men are nearly 15% more likely than women to attend A&E as their first port of call, rather than accessing the right care in the right place; understands that Stephen Bunting found his visit to the Men’s Shed very interesting and that he praised its concept and how it promotes the importance of health and wellbeing in men, and believes that the Men’s Shed in Govan is a really important resource for men to receive support and encouragement with issues affecting their health and wellbeing.
