Blackness Primary School Faces Closure

  • Submitted by: Stephen Kerr, Central Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 07 February 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16354
  • Current status: Achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament notes the proposal by Falkirk Council officers to close Blackness Primary School; acknowledges what it sees as the potentially significant and detrimental impact such a closure would have on the community; considers that families living in rural and village communities should have the option to send their children to a local primary school; understands with concern that, according to Scottish Government data, 44 rural schools have been closed in Scotland since 2013, and commends the dedicated efforts of the Blackness Primary School Parent Council, and the Blackness community, in campaigning to preserve the school for the benefit of current and future generations.
