Kevin Howett Mountain Award

That the Parliament sends its congratulations to Kevin Howett on achieving the Scottish Award for Excellence in Mountain Culture; understands that the prestigious award recognises an elite list of individuals, who have gone beyond personal achievement and further enhanced the outdoor community as a whole; further understands that Kevin Howett’s extensive contributions include shaping the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, forming the Scottish Climbing Advisory Group and the Mountain Safety Group, organising Scotland’s first youth climbing competitions and helping to establish the UK’s climbing coaching system, creating nesting bird guidance for climbers, advocating for investment in footpath repairs and defending Scotland’s wildlife and landscapes from power line, hydro and wind farm applications; notes that he is also the longest-serving editor of Scottish Mountaineer, and author of various mountaineering and climbing guidebooks, given his experience as one of Scotland’s most prominent climbers; commends Kevin Howett’s dedication and what it sees as his defence of Scotland’s wild places, and wishes him the best on his well-earned retirement.
