  • Submitted by: Meghan Gallacher, Central Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 31 January 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16292

That the Parliament celebrates the success of the North Lanarkshire project, Girls into Construction; understands that the project aimed to inspire young women to consider careers in construction, targeting those in their second year of secondary school to explore STEM subjects; notes that the project was run in partnership with Kier, Coatbridge High School and St Ambrose High School, with the support of North Lanarkshire Council and hub South West; acknowledges that the initiative brought together schools and industry to challenge gender stereotypes and introduce students to the opportunities available in construction, and hopes that similar initiatives will be rolled out across Scotland, to encourage more young women into the sector.
