Dundee's Unicorn Preservation Society Secures National Lottery Heritage Funding

That the Parliament congratulates the Unicorn Preservation Society on securing an initial fund of £796,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which will be critical to support the next phase of Project Safe Haven; understands that this award is the first stage in a potential £4,096,001 award from the National Lottery Heritage Fund; recognises that Project Safe Haven, first launched in 2014, aims to bring Dundee’s B-listed East Graving Dock back into working use, allowing HMS Unicorn to be relocated and enabling additional repair works to the ship; understands that repair works will be crucial for the wider aims of Project Safe Haven, which will see new interpretation installed onboard HMS Unicorn to enhance the visitor experience and tell the ship’s story to new generations in Dundee; notes that the Unicorn Preservation Society, which was first formed in 1968, exists to ensure the conservation and preservation of this 19th century ship for future generations; commends the work of the organisation, including its education programmes and events, which educate the public on the significance of HMS Unicorn as a piece of maritime heritage in Dundee, and wishes the Unicorn Preservation Society every success with its fundraising and restoration work.
