Amnesty International Report Accuses Israel of Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza

  • Submitted by: Mercedes Villalba, North East Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 28 January 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16219
  • Current status: Achieved cross-party support

That the Parliament notes the publication of the Amnesty International report, 'You Feel Like You Are Subhuman': Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians In Gaza; is gravely concerned that Amnesty’s research has, it believes, found a sufficient basis to conclude that the Israeli Government has committed, and is continuing to commit, genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip; understands that the report documents how, during its military offensive launched in the wake of the deadly Hamas-led attacks in southern Israel on 7 October 2023, the Israeli Government has unleashed what it sees as hell and destruction on the Palestinians in Gaza and it considers that this has been done brazenly, continuously and with total impunity; notes the view that, as a state party to the genocide convention, the UK must uphold its legal obligation to help prevent this crime and immediately end all arms transfers to Israeli forces, while pressing the UN Security Council to impose a comprehensive arms embargo on all parties to the conflict; understands that Amnesty’s findings have implications for the Scottish Government, and recognises concerns, in the North East Scotland region and across the country, that Scottish Enterprise’s reported continued support for arms companies manufacturing weapons and components that could be supplied to rights-violating states, including Israel, might place Scotland at risk of complicity with the most serious of international humanitarian law violations.
