Tinderbox Collective Named First Scottish Recipient of Ed Sheeran Foundation

That the Parliament celebrates Tinderbox Collective in Edinburgh being named the first recipient of the Ed Sheeran Foundation in Scotland; understands that the Ed Sheeran Foundation aims to improve access to music through instruments, performance opportunities and pathways through the industry; notes that Tinderbox Collective works with young musicians in Scotland aged between 10 and 25 through its Tinderbox Orchestra, Tinderbox Lab and other youth and community initiatives, including working closely with schools and libraries across Scotland; acknowledges the importance of music education in schools in developing children’s language, mental health, self-confidence, social skills, creativity, motor skills, emotional intelligence and academic performance; highlights the important work being undertaken by organisations such as MEPG and the Music Venues Trust, as well as the Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group on Music, in promoting the benefits, opportunities and challenges within music education in Scotland; congratulates Tinderbox Collective on being the first Scottish recipient of the Ed Sheeran Foundation, and looks forward to seeing the continued efforts of the Ed Sheeran Foundation and Tinderbox Collective in promoting high-quality music education and opportunities for young musicians in Scotland.
