That the Parliament congratulates Dates-n-Mates, which is a friendship charity in Govan on receiving £400 from the Asda Foundation to support it in organising social events for its members; notes that the charity organises five events each year and that this grant helped it to organise a Christmas party, which saw 150 people attend; acknowledges that the Govan-based charity helps young people with learning disabilities help deal with loneliness; believes that disabled people often face significant isolation, including after leaving college, and that the charity’s dating agency is a vital lifeline in this respect, by giving the young people the chance to build lasting relationships and a sense of belonging and providing an opportunity to make new friends and explore relationships; recognises that Dates-n-Mates is a dating and friendship charity, which is run by, and for, adults with learning disabilities; notes that it has 15 years’ experience of connecting people in Glasgow, and recognises that its work is underpinned by a human rights-based approach and the belief that it is people’s right to live life free of discrimination and to develop friendships and relationships of their choosing, allowing them to love and be loved.
