That the Parliament commemorates the 1,700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea, which was convened in the Bithynian city of Nicaea, now Iznik, Turkey, in 325 AD by the Roman Emperor, Constantine I; recognises its historical significance as the first ecumenical council of the Christian church; acknowledges the Council's role in addressing the Arian controversy about the nature of Christ and establishing the Nicene Creed as Christianity's defining statement of belief; notes the Council's efforts to unify the church and its impact on ecclesiastical and secular relations; highlights the Council's legacy in attempting to mandate the uniform observance of the date of Easter and the promulgation of early canon law, and celebrates what it sees as the enduring legacy of the Council in shaping Christian doctrine and church governance.
