That the Parliament congratulates Karen Kelly on being awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for voluntary services; understands that Karen currently serves as the head coach for the Lanark Amateur Swimming Club, and was recognised in 2023 as the longest serving member in its history, after 50 years; further understands that coach Kelly joined the club at 10 years old and took on her first coaching role at 16 years old; notes that coach Kelly runs six training session a week for the club’s 80 members, which have gone on to compete at the district level and nationally, including one member going to represent the Scotland youth team in Geneva in 2025; recognises the important role that coach Kelly plays in creating an inclusive and welcoming community where young athletes feel inspired; commends coach Kelly’s dedication to her work as a volunteer and her contributions to Scottish sport, and wishes her all the best in the future.
