  • Motion reference: S6M-15914

That the Parliament applauds Lauren Magunnigal, a dedicated charge nurse in the University Health and Social Care North Lanarkshire Older Adult Community Mental Health team, on being awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse; recognises that the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland, established in 1889, supports, develops and inspires community nurses and midwives to become agents of health improvement and powerful catalysts for social change by completing a rigorous nine-month Queen’s Nurse development programme, which encompasses intensive residential workshops, online sessions and personalised coaching; understands that Lauren chose to tackle a vital issue by championing equality and inclusion, with a mission to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of those under her care, and celebrates that she is now one of just 21 nurses to receive this esteemed award; considers that Lauren’s unwavering dedication and passion to breaking down barriers, addressing the profound impacts of social isolation, and delivering life-changing transformations is reflected in the outreach programme that she has been working on as part of the course, which focuses on early intervention, prevention and community resilience-building at a local foodbank, leading to an impressive 15% drop in referral rates; commends Lauren and the University Health and Social Care North Lanarkshire Older Adult Community Mental Health team for their outstanding contributions in empowering individuals to live healthier, more connected and fulfilling lives, and extends its warmest wishes to Lauren for continued success in all her future endeavours.
