That the Parliament commends Above Adventure, in Kilmarnock, for its commitment to the sport of climbing; understands that the non-profit climbing gym’s mission is to create a place where all ages and abilities can engage with the sports of climbing and bouldering; further understands that, following the recognition that speed climbing is not as accessible as other types of climbing, Above Adventure worked with Ava Hamilton, the fastest woman speed climber in the UK, to create two sections of speed climbing wall that mimic the stringent standards set by the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC); notes that there are three full-sized standardised speed climbing walls in the UK, including one in Edinburgh; welcomes the news that Above Adventure now participates in the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS), which inspires, challenges and rewards young climbers as they develop their skills and confidence on the wall; believes that Above Adventure has helped reduce the barriers to accessing the sport by providing a supportive and engaging space for novice and professional climbers alike; recognises what it believes to be an important contribution to sport for young people locally and nationally, and wishes Above Adventure and its volunteers all the best in the future.
