That the Parliament welcomes news that the 20th Island Games - Orkney 2025, Sporting Memories Intergenerational Legacy Project has been awarded funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund; believes that the project is an excellent way of helping to preserve memories of the 20th Island Games, due to take place in Orkney in July 2025, as well as past Island Games, which have been running since 1985; understands that the project will deliver a Memory Makers intergenerational programme that will be shared online to collect memories, set up two new Sport Memories Clubs in Orkney for older people, which will provide opportunities for reminiscence and social and physical activities, record oral histories of Scotland’s Island Games heritage, develop an online archive, and host an exhibition during the games displaying collected memories, oral histories and photographs; acknowledges that, in the year of the Island Games’ 40th anniversary, this offers a valuable opportunity to celebrate the rich sporting, social and cultural heritage of the event, which has fostered sport and friendships in and between the islands around the world since its inception; recognises the efforts of all at Sporting Memories in securing funding and coordinating this important project, and looks forward to the 2025 Island Games in Orkney providing many more memories to cherish.
