  • Date lodged: Thursday, 05 December 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15761

That the Parliament applauds the tireless and inspirational work of Banffshire and Buchan Coast athlete and community champion, David Jarvis; believes that his sporting achievements, including winning the Gold medal in the cycling time trial at the Invictus Games, competing in swimming, indoor rowing and powerlifting, all while bravely facing a life-changing condition, serve as a beacon of resilience; notes his community and charity work, which sees David regularly visiting schools and sports clubs, offering sports coaching and promoting the benefits of sport and fitness, and inspiring young people; understands that David's selfless charity work has raised thousands of pounds for local and national causes; considers that his work, using sport not just to rebuild himself but also to inspire others, shines a light on the challenges that veterans face, particularly in adapting to civilian life, and shows what is possible when the right support is provided; believes that he has become an advocate, demonstrating how veterans can excel when their potential is recognised and nurtured, and that he serves as a powerful reminder of the talent and strength within the Armed Forces community; further believes that his example should inspire everyone to redouble their efforts to support veterans; notes that David's work was recognised by winning the accolade of Aberdeenshire Sports Person of the Year 2023 and being a finalist at the Scottish Sports Awards 2024 in the Community Hero category; wishes David future success, and hopes that he continues to inspire in the years to come.
