Harris McCutcheon Chosen to Represent Scotland on Butterfly Conservation Panel

  • Submitted by: Alexander Burnett, Aberdeenshire West, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 04 December 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15743

That the Parliament congratulates Harris McCutcheon, a 17-year-old from Torphins, on his selection to represent Scotland on a youth panel for butterflies and moths established by the charity, Butterfly Conservation; understands that Harris is the youngest of 10 members on the panel, which was created in response to the charity's worst-ever results in the Big Butterfly Count and the subsequent declaration of a UK-wide "Butterfly Emergency" in September 2024; further understands that Harris and his fellow panel members will meet monthly to help organise and lead events aimed at engaging more people, particularly young people, in conservation efforts; recognises that Harris will serve on the panel for at least one year, with the opportunity to extend his term for an additional year; commends Harris for his commitment to conservation, and looks forward to the innovative ideas that he and the panel will bring to butterfly conservation and the wider conservation community.
