That the Parliament congratulates Sandra Duguid, a Deaf filmmaker from Banff, on her outstanding achievements at the 48 Hour Film Project, where her film, Rowies v Butteries SAGA!, was recognised with the Grampian Champion award for Best Showcase of Aberdeen and Shire, and where her cat, Belle Duguid, won the Paw d’Or for Best Animal Performance; acknowledges that Sandra, a British Sign Language (BSL) user, created her film using BSL as the primary mode of communication, reflecting her first language and Deaf identity, and ensured its accessibility by captioning it simultaneously in both English and Doric; commends what it sees as her commitment to inclusivity and her innovative storytelling, which celebrates both cultural and linguistic diversity; acknowledges the accessibility measures of the 48 Hour Film Project, including BSL interpretation and a responsive lighting board that enhanced audience engagement; celebrates Sandra’s contributions as a filmmaker and advocate for the Deaf community, showcasing the richness of the north east’s culture and creativity, and calls for continued efforts to ensure that the creative industries are inclusive and accessible to everyone, recognising that diversity, it believes, enriches Scotland’s cultural landscape.
