SCHOLAR and Heriot-Watt University 25th Anniversary

That the Parliament congratulates SCHOLAR and Heriot-Watt University on the 25th anniversary of its innovative online learning platform; acknowledges SCHOLAR as Scotland’s first and most successful online learning provider, which has supported over one million learners since its inception; recognises the platform’s evolution from a STEM-focused resource to a comprehensive educational tool offering online courses across 21 subjects at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels, including English, Mathematics, Modern Languages, ESOL, Computing Science, Sciences, Business Management, Geography and Music; celebrates reports that SCHOLAR is used by approximately 90% of Scotland’s schools, reaching an average of 140,000 students and 15,000 teachers annually; recognises SCHOLAR as a partnership between the Association of Directors of Education in Scotland and Heriot-Watt University; commends what it sees as its vital role in supporting schools and teachers by removing barriers to education, promoting equity, and enhancing effective learning and teaching; acknowledges that all courses provided on SCHOLAR are fully aligned with SQA specifications, and expresses gratitude to the Heriot-Watt University staff who run SCHOLAR, as well as to the learners and teachers who continue to use the platform to maximise educational potential.
