That the Parliament congratulates New College Lanarkshire on being crowned winners at WorldSkills UK; understands that WorldSkills UK, designed by industry experts, is the country’s biggest test of technical skills and attracts hundreds of applications from students and apprentices from a wide range of categories; further understands that the national finals were split into the four categories, construction and infrastructure, digital business and creative, engineering and technology, and health, hospitality and lifestyle; recognises that New College Lanarkshire finalists excelled in multiple categories, particularly in digital skills, with the student, Luke Clayton, winning Gold in the Mechanical Engineering: CAD event; believes that finalists from 2024’s national finals may be selected to join WorldSkills UK’s international training and development programme, and then have the opportunity to join Squad UK and, subsequently, Team UK at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, also known as the "Skills Olympics"; applauds the dedication of the New College Lanarkshire staff who supported the students and apprentices to believe in themselves, take part and go on to achieve "best in UK" status, and recognises what it sees as the importance of competitions such as WorldSkills UK in encouraging the talent, confidence and skills that are vital for empowering young people, strengthening local economies, and building a workforce fit for the future.
