  • Submitted by: Douglas Lumsden, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 25 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15592

That the Parliament welcomes the opening of Murtle Market at Camphill School Aberdeen on 22 November 2024; recognises what it sees as this innovative social enterprise as a zero waste refillery shop and heritage hub; notes that the market will sell local, seasonal organic produce grown in the estate's walled garden alongside sustainable arts and crafts; commends the project's commitment to environmental sustainability through its use of repurposed materials in construction, minimal food miles and circular economy principles; considers that the market has a vital role in providing meaningful work opportunities and skills development for young people with additional support needs (ASN); understands that this development forms part of Phase 1 of the Building Futures, Transforming Lives campaign, which aims to raise £10 million over 10 years to support young people with complex ASN; notes that Phase 1 will include an 11-bedroom residential home and fully inclusive sensory playground; celebrates Camphill's continuing legacy of inclusion and support since its founding in 1940, and wishes the Murtle Market team every success in its mission to transform young people's lives while promoting environmental sustainability.
