That the Parliament congratulates the Sandwick and Harray Young Farmers Organisations on their success at the North District Speechmaking Contest in November 2024; understands that the Sandwick A team took the top prize in the junior competition, with the Harray Purple team coming in as runner-up, whilst the Harray Blue team won in the senior section; notes the further success of the Harray Blue team, as Campbell Ridland was named Best Overall Individual; welcomes this recognition of the hard work and skills of Orkney’s young farmers, as well as what it sees as the value of Young Farmers Organisations in rural and island communities across Scotland; acknowledges that the islands will be very well represented at the national finals in February 2025, and wishes all the finalists from around the country the very best of luck.
