  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 14 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15435

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney resident Aly MacPhail on being named Official of the Year at the 2024 sportscotland Coaching, Officiating and Volunteering Awards; notes that the awards celebrate individuals working in sport who seek to break down barriers and commit their own time to allow others the chance to benefit from sport; understands that Aly has been a stalwart of the Orkney Athletic and Running Club over many years and is currently heavily involved in preparations for the International Island Games to be held in Orkney in 2025; commends Aly’s hard work in recruiting and training volunteers to officiate the event, and pays tribute to what it views as her clear passion for sport and dedication to improving accessibility to sport within the Orkney community; believes that this is richly deserved recognition of the contribution that Aly has made, and continues to make, and looks forward to seeing Aly’s hard work pay off at the Island Games in 2025.
