Welcoming Revive Coalition’s Big Land Question

  • Submitted by: Ariane Burgess, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 12 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15406

That the Parliament understands that Scotland has one of the most unequal patterns of land ownership in the developed world, with just 433 people owning half of Scotland’s privately owned rural land; recognises the findings of the Scottish Land Commission research indicating that this is causing long-term damage to communities; considers the proposed Land Reform (Scotland) Bill to be a positive development, but that further action is urgently required; welcomes, therefore, the Revive Coalition’s Big Land Question, which aims to encourage a public debate over the future of land reform and understand how the ownership and management of Scotland’s land could be improved, and encourages the public and stakeholders to respond.
