UWS Foundation Academy in Central Scotland

  • Submitted by: Meghan Gallacher, Central Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 11 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15380

That the Parliament recognises the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) Foundation Academy; considers that this is an innovative widening access initiative that supports young people across the west and south of Scotland to access higher education; notes that the Foundation Academy was launched in 2022 and focuses on addressing the reported lower progress rates to higher education; further notes that, since its launch, the initiative has enrolled over 1,000 senior pupils from more than 30 schools, and understands that, in the Central Scotland region, a total of 370 pupils are participating in the 2024-25 cohort, which, it believes, is creating a greater regional impact.
