Scotland Women’s Rugby Team Celebrate Highest World Ranking

  • Submitted by: Tess White, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 04 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15176

That the Parliament congratulates Scotland’s Women’s Rugby team, and captain Rachel Malcolm, on a successful season in which the team achieved a top five position in the world rankings, its highest ever to date; understands that this was accomplished on the back of 10 wins out of 13 tests, including successful results at the Guinness Women’s Six Nations; notes that these wins secured the team's spot in the second tier of the recent women’s XV competition (WXV 2), which took place in Cape Town, South Africa, with Scotland winning two of its three games against Italy, Japan and Australia; notes that the Head Coach, Bryan Easson, selected his 30-player squad, with four previously uncapped players, Aila Ronald, who was born in Aberdeen, Rachel Philipps, who was born in Biggar, Lucia Scott, who was born in Gloucester, and Leia Brebner-Holden, who was born in Taunton; recognises that Lucia and Leia both made their debuts as substitutes in the 2024 autumn test against Wales, with both players contributing in the WXV 2, and welcomes what it sees as Scottish Rugby’s continued commitment to identify and develop new talent as part of its Women and Girls Strategy 2022-26.
