  • Submitted by: Sharon Dowey, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 22 October 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14980

That the Parliament congratulates Ava Morgan, from Ayr, on winning the Miss Great Britain title at the national competition; understands that Ava, who studies international business at university, was crowned the winner over 40 other finalists; notes that, across the two days of competition, Ava showcased her charity, talent and publicity efforts, and took part in private interviews with an esteemed judging panel, before taking to the iconic Miss GB stage; further notes that Ava was crowned Best in Interview by six expert judges, and also won the publicity award after mounting a powerful "BeBoobAware" campaign to raise awareness and understanding of breast cancer, which it understands is a deeply personal issue for Ava as a close family member has survived the disease; recognises that Ava, who also recently won Miss GB Edinburgh, hosted a highly successful charity Ladies Lunch, raising £16,450 for Cancer Research UK and Alex’s Wish; further recognises that the event was fully booked with 100 people in attendance, marking another fantastic achievement in Ava’s ongoing fundraising efforts, bringing her total to approximately £27,000 raised over the past three months; commends Ava for what it sees as her fantastic achievement and generous charity work, and wishes her every success for the future.
