That the Parliament notes the reported comment in The Telegraph from the chief executive of the British Hydropower Association that energy consumers are currently paying about £62 million a day to curtail wind as there is not sufficient capacity across the grid to move it from Scotland to England; understands that these comments were made in relation to a proposal, approved by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, for a cap and floor funding scheme for dam developers, to encourage new pumped storage hydropower schemes; believes that these comments highlight that the UK Government’s hydro plans are too focused on moving energy produced in Scotland down to consumers in England; notes research from Octopus Energy that reportedly found that, if the UK moved to a regional pricing model, Scotland would have the cheapest energy in Europe, and believes that the only realistic way for people in Scotland to recognise the true economic benefits of the country's wealth of renewable energy resources is as an independent country in the EU.
