World Arthritis Day

  • Submitted by: Pam Duncan-Glancy, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 10 October 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14876

That the Parliament notes that World Arthritis Day takes place on 12 October 2024; understands that arthritis and other musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are a major cause of pain and disability, affecting one in three people in Scotland of all ages; understands that MSK conditions make up around a quarter of work-related illness in Scotland, and that MSK conditions are associated with the worst quality of life scores in Scotland, compared with many other conditions; further understands that it is widely predicted that the prevalence and impact of MSK conditions will increase as a result of the population ageing, and that the number of people in Scotland needing medical interventions, such as hip and knee replacements, will also increase; congratulates the charity, Versus Arthritis, on its work across Scotland to increase awareness and deliver services and support for people living with arthritis and other MSK conditions; believes that finding ways to prevent disability from arthritis and MSK conditions is a major and important challenge, and encourages all MSPs to mark World Arthritis Day and show their solidarity by supporting this motion.
