That the Parliament sends its congratulations to the Glasgow Chinese Recreation Centre on being awarded its first National Lottery grant; understands that the volunteer-run group in Possilpark brings the local Chinese diaspora together through cultural activities such as tai chi, fan dancing and a weekly lunch club, which is filled with delicious home-cooked meals; further understands that the majority of members are older people who were isolated until they found the group; notes that, as well as its lunch club and community allotment, the group has a colourful array of exercise classes to help members stay active and respond to any physical and mental health challenges they face; understands that the members enjoy sharing their rich cultural heritage, and have recently brought the art of tai chi fan, which is a combination of tai chi and fan dancing, to schools in the area, captivating students with their graceful movements; believes that in the past few months, they have also showcased their talents at various events, including the Springburn Community Street Festival, where they performed both fan-dancing and tai chi; acknowledges that the group is one of 48 groups sharing £460,000 from the Ethnic Minority Development Fund, which aims to break down barriers and create opportunities for such bodies across Scotland, and acknowledges the collaboration between the National Lottery Community Fund and the Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Sector Organisations Scotland to address challenges that often prevent ethnic minority groups from accessing such funding, such as language barriers and complex application processes.
