Barra, PDSA Order of Merit

  • Submitted by: Jackie Baillie, Dumbarton, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 12 September 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14475

That the Parliament recognises the work of Barra, who was a springer spaniel from Luss, who sadly passed away in May 2024; understands that he worked with his owner, Iain Marshall, based at the River Clyde, where he specialised in submerged victim recovery for 11 years before retiring in June 2022, due to arthritis; acknowledges the tremendous impact that Barra had in helping grieving relatives to find their loved ones and bring them closure; notes the contribution that he has made to the establishment of the K9 Search and Recovery unit; believes that Barra's  PDSA Order of Merit award and his entry into the European Animal Hall of Fame were well-deserved recognition of his dedication and service to the families he has assisted over the years, and thanks Iain for all of his hard work in training Barra to carry out this essential service.
