  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 06 September 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14367

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney-born artist Steven MacIver on receiving the 2024 Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) MacRobert Art Award for Painting; recognises that Steven’s paintings, which have recently focussed on creating the impression of depth through the layering and removal of paint, have been exhibited in the US and the UK, including in the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness; understands that the RSA’s MacRobert Award for Painting provides time and financial assistance for the recipient to develop their artistic talent; acknowledges what it sees as the importance of such awards in giving artists the opportunity necessary to focus on utilising their talents and expanding their practice; understands that it is Steven’s intention to use the next year to develop a body of work on the theme of "homecoming", celebrating Scottish heritage; looks forward to the resulting paintings being exhibited in the RSA, and wishes Steven every success with his art in the future.
