  • Submitted by: Paul O'Kane, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.

  • Motion reference: S6M-14297

That the Parliament notes that the charity, Remembering Srebrenica Scotland, has been renamed Beyond Srebrenica in light of its educational work being expanded to include events that took place in the lead up to, during and after the 1992 to 1995 war across the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina; acknowledges what it sees as the invaluable work that the charity does to commemorate and raise awareness of the Srebrenica genocide; understands that the charity was founded in 2016 and has since grown to become an important member of Scotland’s third sector, managing the Lessons of Srebrenica programme in Scotland; notes that the charity will continue to acknowledge and teach about the genocide in Srebrenica and to work with the Mothers of Srebrenica, the Srebrenica Memorial Centre, and survivors, and commends the charity’s board and volunteers for what it considers to be the invaluable work that they do to ensure that the horrors of the past are never forgotten, and never repeated.
