  • Submitted by: Beatrice Wishart, Shetland Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 02 September 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-14236

That the Parliament congratulates the Shetland Community Bike Project on its 25th anniversary; notes that the project was established in 1999 as a non-profit making charity for people with barriers to work; considers that the project gives people purpose, responsibility, training and a wage, helping people to reach their full potential, not only working as part of a team at the project but offering advice to get others into areas of employment or training; welcomes the range of experiences provided to trainees, including re-establishing a daily routine of attending work, reintegration into society, support with job search skills, and developing skills required by local employers; recognises the range of services that the project provides, including bike repairs, bike maintenance classes and bicycle hire; commends the project’s ethos in repairing and restoring old bikes taken to the project, which are sold on at affordable prices, with funds ensuring the continuation of the project; thanks project manager, Caroline Adamson, for her dedication and commitment, and wishes all at the Shetland Community Bike Project well and continued success in the future.
