Celebrating Ian McDiarmid's 80th Birthday

That the Parliament congratulates Scotland-born actor and director, Ian McDiarmid, on his 80th birthday, which took place on 11 August 2024; notes that McDiarmid was born in Carnoustie, Angus, in 1944, and made his stage debut in 1972 in a production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet; understands that he has starred in several Shakespeare plays; further understands that he is best known for his role as Emperor Sheev Palpatine in the Star Wars franchise since he first portrayed the Sith Lord in 1983, and recognises that McDiarmid has made a significant contribution to British theatre and film throughout his career.
