That the Parliament acknowledges the 17th Scottish Young Carers Festival from 7 to 9 August 2024; welcomes the three-day residential event, funded by the Scottish Government and hosted by Carers Trust Scotland, which will bring together over 500 young carers from all across Scotland; recognises that the Scottish Young Carers Festival offers a fun short break experience for young carers so that they can try out exciting activities that are different from those normally available in their day-to-day lives, and that, importantly, it allows them time away from their caring responsibilities to have fun and be children and young people first and foremost; appreciates that the Scottish Young Carers Festival provides a place for young people to meet others with a shared experience, allowing them to make friends in the knowledge that all participants have an understanding of how an unpaid caring role can impact the life of a young person; understands that the Scottish Young Carers Festival also offers designated spaces for consultation with young carers, giving them an opportunity to share their lived experiences in a way that is comfortable and appropriate for them, which contributes to an understanding of the young carer landscape at a national level; further understands that the Scottish Young Carers Festival also offers valuable networking opportunities for youth professionals working directly with young carers, as well as organisations working with young people at a national level to gain insight and connections that are useful in delivering comprehensive services to young carers; values what it sees as the immense contribution that young carers make to society; appreciates the vital support that local carer organisations provide for young carers and unpaid carers across Scotland; recognises what it sees as the importance of the Scottish Young Carers Festival; believes that appropriate services and support should be available to all young carers across Scotland to ensure that their rights are upheld, and that they have a fair chance to follow their aspirations, achieve their full potential and live fulfilled lives, and wishes all young carers taking part a very enjoyable Scottish Young Carers Festival.
